Disaster Preparedness Week - Day 4

Day 4 - Medicine and Prescriptions

We are halfway through Disaster Preparedness Week! We hope you are all having fun getting prepared. Today we are going to talk about Medicine and Prescriptions.

When disaster strikes, it can become hard to fill your prescriptions or get a hold of your doctor. It is important to have copies of your prescriptions, names of medications, and your doses.

The form below will help you with the following.

  • Have a checklist of what to grab from your medicine cabinet
  • Have a list of important medical equipment that you need to have with you
  • Have all of your medicine and prescription information in one place
  • Have your Doctor and Pharmacy contact information

Download your Medicine and Prescriptions Checklist.

Add to Your Kit

Be sure to make copies of your prescriptions and include them with this worksheet. If you have completed Day 3 in this series, then you can keep these pages in the same folder as your important documents.

FEMA recommends having a supply of your medications in your emergency kit. This lets you leave your home without raiding your cupboards and also ensures that you will have a supply available if you are not able to get access to a refill.

Due to rules around refills, this can be a challenge to do. You can call your insurance company and let them know that you are working on a disaster preparedness kit they should be able to help you. Make sure you set a schedule to rotate out your medications so that they are all up-to-date.

If you have not completed day 3, do that here.
